With hundreds of satisfied boat owners behind me, I bring solid experience, attention to detail, and a straightforward approach to every project. I understand how much your boat means to you, and I treat it with the same care and respect I would my own.

At the end of the day, it’s simple — I take pride in my work, and I make sure it shows in the finish.

‘‘…When you choose Oxon Boats, you’re choosing a company who understands the importance of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and treating every boat as if it were their own.’

People often ask about my process, and after more than 20 years in the industry, I can tell you it’s never a one-size-fits-all approach. Every boat presents its own challenges depending on age, condition, previous coatings, and how it’s been used. That’s why I begin with a thorough assessment before any work starts.

Preparation is the foundation of a lasting finish. That means careful stripping or sanding where required, repairing imperfections, addressing any corrosion or damage, and ensuring all surfaces are properly keyed and cleaned. I take the time to get this stage right, because the final result is only as good as the groundwork beneath it.

From there, I apply high-quality primers and topcoats using proven techniques that deliver both durability and a refined, even finish. Throughout the process, attention to detail is everything — from masking and protection to curing times and final inspection.

‘‘…The aim isn’t just to make your boat look good on collection day. It’s to provide a finish that performs well, protects properly, and continues to look exceptional for years to come.’’

While renowned for outstanding repaints, I provide — or professionally coordinate — carpentry, steelwork, electrics, gas, plumbing, and heating, ensuring seamless, fully BSS-compliant results. Whether alongside a repaint or as an independent commission, each project receives the same exacting standard.

Though widely recognised for exceptional repaints, I also undertake — or coordinate on the owner’s behalf — carpentry, steelwork, electrics, gas, plumbing, and heating, as well as delivering BSS-compliant solutions for boat owners.

“…it’s my tradition and heritage ”

“…my tradition and heritage ”

The history and living traditions of the waterways are at the heart of my work. For 18 years I was closely involved with the team at Brinklow Boat Services, helping to repaint a number of historic and faithfully reproduced narrowboats — vessels that carry the story of the cut in their lines and liveries.

Having been entrusted with several boatman’s cabin repaints, I immersed myself in the traditional decorative arts of the waterways. I honed the craft of wood graining using hand-mixed scumbles, studied period colourways, and developed a particular pride in decorating cabin doors in keeping with time-honoured styles.

Encouragement and influence came from some of the waterways’ most respected craftsmen — Phil Speight, Dave Moore, the Wain Brothers, and Steve Priest — whose standards and knowledge helped shape my own approach to the craft.

Most recently and with the help of Rex Wain, I have been building traditional door panels for the motor boat Baron, built by Roger Farringdon — a project rooted firmly in the preservation and continuation of classic canal craftsmanship.
